Solution · Pressure piping
Prefabricating pipe spools in the shop gives better welds, fewer site hours and a complete record of every joint. World Steel cuts, bevels, fits, welds, examines and pressure-tests spools from your isometrics – carbon, low-temperature and stainless steel – to the piping code of your project.

Most of the welds in a piping system can be made in the shop – flat or rolled, under cover, with positioners and the right equipment. Only the field welds that join spools are left for site. That means better weld quality, faster installation and far fewer hours in hot, congested or remote locations.
Every spool is made from an isometric with weld numbers. Each weld is linked to its welder, its welding procedure, the heat numbers of the pipe and fittings, its examination results and the pressure test – the record your inspector and the plant owner need.
Applicazioni
Machine cutting and bevelling to the joint design; branch connections and saddles.
GTAW root and SMAW / FCAW / SAW fill to qualified procedures; purging for stainless steel.
Post-weld heat treatment where the code and material require it, with temperature charts.
Visual, MT/PT, RT or UT to the specified percentage; PMI for alloy materials when required.
Hydrostatic or pneumatic tests to the code, with calibrated gauges and test records.
Blasting and painting or pickling and passivation; flange protection, end caps and marking.
Norme e conformità
The code in your specification governs.
Sintesi solo orientativa: prevalgono il capitolato di progetto, l'edizione del codice adottata e l'autorità competente.

Traceability
The spool data book contains the isometrics with weld maps, material certificates (EN 10204 3.1), welding procedure specifications and qualification records, welder qualifications, NDE and PWHT reports, pressure test certificates and coating records. Read more about our quality control.

FAQ
A prefabricated section of a piping system – pipes, fittings and flanges welded together in the shop – sized for transport and joined to other spools at site.
Under ASME B31.3 a hydrostatic test is typically at least 1.5 times the design pressure, adjusted for temperature; other codes have their own rules. The test pressure is set by the piping engineer.
Your third-party inspector is welcome at all hold and witness points of the ITP; we can also arrange an independent inspection body.
