Why stainless

Stainless steel grating needs no coating, cleans easily and resists corrosion where galvanised steel would be attacked – food and beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, chemical plants, water and wastewater treatment, coastal and marine structures. SUS304 suits most hygienic and indoor uses; SUS316, with molybdenum, is chosen for chlorides, sea water and aggressive chemicals.

Fabrication

Separate tools and storage from carbon steel to prevent iron contamination.
Welded with matching stainless filler; heat tint removed by pickling.
Passivated and rinsed; surface finish agreed for hygienic areas.
Fasteners and clips in stainless steel of the same or better grade.

Load capacity is similar to carbon steel grating of the same size for selection purposes; final design uses the stainless steel properties of the project code (for example AISC Design Guide 27, AS/NZS 4673 or EN 1993-1-4).

Can stainless grating be mixed with galvanised frames?
