One of World Steel's core products

Grating is in almost every structure we build – platforms, walkways, stairs, mezzanines, trenches and drainage pits. That is why World Steel makes it as a product line of its own: a clear WS code system, standard meshes and panels, load tables for every size and a production line that forge-welds, cuts, bands and marks each panel to the layout.

You get the right bar for the load instead of a guess, panels that drop into place without site cutting, and one supplier for the grating, the platform steel, stair treads, handrails and covers – galvanised, packed by area and documented for export.

Engenharia

A code that says everything

WS-G325/30/100-S-G tells the whole story: 32 × 5 mm bearing bars at 30 mm, cross bars at 100 mm, serrated, hot-dip galvanised. Engineers, buyers and site teams read the same code on drawings, quotations, pallets and panel tags.

Choose plain (M) or serrated (S) bars, galvanised (G), paint coated (PP) or untreated (U), in SS400, A36, Q345 or stainless SUS304 / SUS316 – see the WS bar grating page.

WS grating specification code explained
Maximum span by WS grating size and load

Engenharia

Selected from tables, not guesswork

Every WS size has published safe uniform and concentrated loads, deflections and recommended spans for 2.5, 3, 4, 5 and 7.5 kPa. We select the lightest bar that carries your load over your span – and check wheel loads, serrated bars and deflection limits on top.

The full tables are on the load and span tables page; try the quick selector below for a first answer.

Engenharia

Made on our grating line

Flat bars and twisted cross rods are forge-welded under heat and pressure at every intersection, straightened, cut to the shop drawing and banded around ends and openings. Each panel is checked for width, squareness, bar lean and bow, then marked.

Panels are hot-dip galvanised and palletised by area, so each platform is installed from one bundle – the same quality system that covers our structural steel, certified to ISO 3834-2.

WS grating production flow
Welded, clipped and bolted grating fixing

Engenharia

Installed in hours, not days

Saddle clips – top plate, hold-down and M8 bolt – fix panels to the steel without damaging the zinc; at least four sets per panel. Welding is used where a floor will never be lifted: a fillet at the first bearing bar of every corner, 20 mm long and 3 mm high.

Panels leave about 10 mm gaps, bearing bars always span between supports, and every clip set is packed with its panels – see clips and fasteners.

Engenharia

Covers for every trench and pit

WS-GT covers sit in cast-in angle seat frames, WS-GU covers on the edges of precast U-channels and WS-GM covers in pit bedframes. Classes run from pedestrian through T-2, T-6 and T-14 to T-20 and T-25 – defined by rear wheel loads from 8 to 100 kN.

Covers can be bolted down or hinged against theft; frames and covers are trial-fitted and supplied as sets – see trench covers and pit covers.

FAQ

Perguntas frequentes

What does a WS grating code like WS-G325/30/100-S-G mean?

Bearing bars 32 mm high × 5 mm thick at 30 mm centres, cross bars at 100 mm, serrated (S) bars and hot-dip galvanised (G) finish. M means plain bars, PP paint coated and U untreated.

Which grating do I need for a walkway?

Pedestrian walkways are usually designed for 3 kPa (4 kPa for crowded public areas). With bars at 30 mm, WS-G253 spans about 1350 mm and WS-G325 about 1840 mm at 3 kPa – the project designer confirms the load and deflection limit.

Do you supply standard panels or cut panels?

Both. Standard panels are 5800 mm long and 970–1003 mm wide; most projects order panels cut to the layout, banded around openings and marked to match the drawing.

Is your grating hot-dip galvanised?

Hot-dip galvanising after fabrication is our standard finish, with the coating thickness recorded per batch. Paint coated, duplex, untreated and stainless steel grating are also available.

Can you make trench and pit covers to EN 124 or AS 3996?

Our GT, GU and GM covers are made in WS classes T-2 to T-25 defined by wheel load. Where a project specifies EN 124, AS 3996 or AASHTO, covers are designed to that standard and, where conformity by test is required, made to a tested design or load-tested as specified.

What do you need for a quotation?

The layout or IFC model with supports and openings, the design load or WS code, mesh and finish, the fixing type and the destination. For covers, the trench or pit sizes and the load class.
