POSCO Vietnam
Cold-rolling mill of South Korea's POSCO group in Phu My, Vietnam, supplying cold-rolled steel for construction and manufacturing.
POSCO Vietnam Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of South Korea's POSCO group, established in 2006. Its cold-rolling mill in the Phu My II Industrial Zone started trial operation in April 2009 with an annual capacity of about 1.2 million tonnes of cold-rolled steel, of which a substantial share was intended for construction materials and the remainder for automotive and motorcycle manufacturing, serving Vietnam and neighbouring countries.
Cold-rolled coil is an intermediate product in the PEB supply chain. Coil coaters and roll formers hot-dip coat cold-rolled strip with zinc or aluminium-zinc alloy and, where required, apply a paint system before roll forming it into roof and wall sheeting, flashings, trims and standing seam panels. Cold-rolled and coated strip is also the starting material for cold-formed Z and C purlins, girts and eave struts. Cold rolling gives closer thickness tolerances and a better surface than hot-rolled strip, which matters for thin-gauge members whose design under AISI S100, AS/NZS 4600 or EN 1993-1-3 depends on the base metal thickness. Fabricators specify the final coated product by its own standard and grade rather than by the cold-rolled feedstock.
