- Bearing bars up to 150 × 8 mm
- 8 × 8 mm square cross bars at 100 mm
- Safe loads to over 1000 kPa on short spans
- 5.0 and 7.5 kPa span tables
- For forklifts, trucks and heavy equipment
Where heavy-duty grating is used
Heavy-duty grating takes loads that light walkway grating cannot: forklift and truck wheels, pallet traffic, boiler houses, compressor rooms, heavy equipment floors, loading docks and trench crossings. Deeper and thicker bearing bars carry the load, and heavier square cross bars spread wheel loads to neighbouring bars.
For trench and pit systems with frames see WS trench covers and WS drainage pit covers.
Recommended spans – 5.0 and 7.5 kPa

Wheel loads are not uniform loads – for vehicles and forklifts the panel is checked for the wheel load, tyre contact area and dynamic factor of the project code (AASHTO, AS 3996 / AS 5100, EN 124 or EN 1991).
Design and compliance
- United States – heavy grating per ANSI/NAAMM MBG 532; road loading AASHTO H-20 / HS-20 or HL-93.
- Australia – AS 3996 class A to G for covers and grates; AS/NZS 1170.1 for floors.
- Europe – EN 124 classes A15 to F900 for covers; EN 1991-1-1 for floors.
- Covers that must conform to a class by test are fabricated to a tested design or load-tested as specified.

Domande frequenti
When do I need heavy-duty grating?
When the floor carries more than about 5 kPa or any wheel load – forklifts, pallet trucks, cars or trucks – and for boiler, compressor and heavy equipment areas.
What is the heaviest WS grating?
WS-G1508/40/100: 150 × 8 mm bearing bars at 40 mm with 8 × 8 mm cross bars, about 285 kg/m².
Can heavy-duty grating be certified to EN 124 or AS 3996?
Covers can be designed to the class and, where conformity by test is required, fabricated to a tested design or load-tested at an accredited laboratory as specified.
