Fire protection boards – dry, robust encasement for steel
Calcium silicate, vermiculite and fire-rated gypsum boards box in steel columns and beams and line fire-rated walls, shafts and ducts. They are installed dry, give a clean finish ready for paint and reach the longest ratings – up to four hours.

How board encasement works
Boards are cut to size and fixed around the steel as a box – on noggins, steel angles or directly to each other – so the heated perimeter is the box, not the profile. Board type and thickness are chosen from the member's section factor and the required rating using the manufacturer's tested data (EN 13381-4, UL listings or AS 1530.4).
The same board families build fire-rated walls, ceilings, shafts and ducts. In those uses the rating belongs to the complete tested system – boards, studs, insulation, fixings and joints.

Boards sized from the member schedule
World Steel takes the fire engineer's member schedule, works out board types and quantities for each column and beam, and ships the boards with the structure. Read the overview of fire protection for steel, compare intumescent coatings, or see gypsum board and fibre cement board.
FAQ
Câu hỏi thường gặp
Calcium silicate or gypsum board?
Calcium silicate boards are denser and more robust and reach longer ratings on steel; fire-rated gypsum (Type X / F) is the economical choice for walls, ceilings and many encasement systems.
Can fire boards be used outdoors?
Some calcium silicate boards are suitable for humid or semi-exposed areas – check the product data; gypsum boards are for dry interiors only.
How is a board system inspected?
Board type and thickness are visible, so the inspector checks them against the schedule, together with fixings and joints.
