China Steel Sumikin Vietnam (CSVC)
Flat-steel joint venture in Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Vietnam, producing pickled, cold-rolled, hot-dip galvanized and electrical steel sheet.
China Steel Sumikin Vietnam Joint Stock Company (CSVC), now named China Steel and Nippon Steel Vietnam Joint Stock Company, was established as a joint venture led by Taiwan's China Steel Corporation with Japanese partners from the Nippon Steel and Sumitomo groups. Its flat-steel plant in the My Xuan A2 Industrial Zone started commercial operation in November 2013 with a capacity of about 1.2 million tonnes per year. The product range covers pickled and oiled sheet, cold-rolled sheet, hot-dip galvanized sheet and electrical steel sheet.
In the pre-engineered building supply chain, hot-dip galvanized sheet and coil are used directly for cold-formed purlins, girts, eave struts, door and opening framing and some flashings, while pickled and cold-rolled sheet serve as feedstock for coating lines and roll formers. For cold-formed structural members, designers specify a structural grade with a minimum yield strength and a zinc coating mass suited to the environment – for example a Z275 coating under JIS G 3302, ASTM A653, EN 10346 or AS 1397. The mill certificate should report both the mechanical properties and the coating mass so that the member capacity assumed in design and the corrosion protection can be verified.
