What ISO 14001 covers
ISO 14001:2015 sets out the requirements for an environmental management system: identifying the environmental aspects of an organisation's activities, meeting compliance obligations, setting objectives, controlling operations, preparing for emergencies, monitoring performance and improving continually – with a life-cycle perspective.
In structural steel fabrication the significant aspects typically include energy use, abrasive blasting dust, paint solvents and VOC, waste steel and scrap, used abrasives, packaging, wastewater and noise. Each is assessed, controlled and monitored.
World Steel's certificate
World Steel Construction Joint Stock Company holds certificate of registration no. 799559, issued by Guardian Independent Certification Ltd (GICG), confirming that its environmental management system conforms to ISO 14001:2015 for: construction; design, manufacture, supply and installing of pre-engineered steel buildings and steel structures. The certificate was first issued on 6 September 2023.
Steel is fully recyclable, and optimised designs – tapered built-up members, efficient structural optimisation and accurate nesting – reduce the steel and energy needed per building.
What it means for clients
Clients with environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments can include World Steel in their supply chain with a certified environmental management system, controlled coating operations and documented waste handling. Material certificates and project data support environmental reporting where requested – see corrosion protection systems for coating durability that extends maintenance intervals.
