Fire stopping – sealing every opening in a fire-rated wall or floor
A fire-rated wall is only as good as its weakest opening. Pipes, cables, ducts and joints pass through compartment walls and floors; fire stopping seals those openings so fire and smoke cannot spread – with collars, wraps, sealants, compounds and slabs tested as complete systems.

Penetration seals and joint seals
Penetration seals close the gap around services passing through a wall or floor. Plastic pipes need intumescent collars or wraps that crush the softening pipe shut; metal pipes and cables need insulation and sealants that stop heat being conducted through. Linear joint seals close movement joints, the head of walls and the gap between floor slab and curtain wall.
Every fire stop is a tested system: the product, the wall or floor type, the service (material, diameter, insulation) and the installation detail must match the test evidence – EN 1366-3/-4 in Europe, ASTM E814 / UL 1479 in the USA, AS 4072.1 with AS 1530.4 in Australia.

FAQ
Questions fréquentes
What is the difference between fire stopping and fire protection?
Fire protection keeps structural members strong in a fire; fire stopping seals openings in fire-rated walls and floors so fire and smoke cannot pass through.
Can I use any fire-rated sealant on any penetration?
No. The rating applies only to the tested combination of product, wall or floor, service and detail – follow the manufacturer's system.
Does World Steel install fire stopping?
We supply Conlit® products with the building envelope and pass the manufacturer's system details to your installer.
Need fire stopping for your project?
Send the penetration schedule – we propose Conlit® systems and quote them with the envelope.
