Demander un devis Caractéristiques

  • Closes automatically after every passage
  • Swings onto the platform, never over the drop
  • Clamps to WS stanchions – no welding
  • Widths to suit ladder and hatch openings
  • Galvanized or safety yellow

What it is

A self-closing gate closes the gap in a guardrail where people step on and off a fixed ladder, a ship ladder or a roof hatch. Spring hinges return the gate to the closed position after every passage, so the opening is never left open the way a chain or drop bar can be.

Design and compliance

EN ISO 14122-3 and -4 call for self-closing gates at access openings in guardrails, and many projects under OSHA and AS 1657 prefer them to chains; the gate must open away from the drop and meet the guardrail loads when closed. World Steel details the gate with the platform so the ladder clearance and the swing are checked.

Installation and selection

  • Clamp the hinge and stop fittings to the stanchions either side of the opening.
  • Check that the gate swings onto the platform and closes fully.
  • Specify the opening width and the ladder or hatch position.

Fabrication and finishing at World Steel

Every WS modular handrail component is made in the World Steel plant in Vietnam: tube and bar are cut on saws to the component schedule, stanchions are welded to base plates, brackets or socket spigots on jigs so that rail heights repeat exactly, and fittings are fabricated from heavy-wall tube and plate, drilled and tapped for their locking screws. Welding follows qualified procedures under ISO 3834-2 and the AS/NZS 5131 and EN 1090-2 systems our certifications cover.

Components are then hot-dip galvanized as single pieces – which is only possible because the system is modular – giving full internal and external zinc coverage with no site welds to repair afterwards. A safety-yellow or architectural topcoat can follow. Parts are marked with their WS code, bagged by type and packed by area for export shipping, together with the structural steel or on their own.

Questions fréquentes

Why not a chain across the ladder opening?

A chain is easily left unhooked and may not meet the guardrail loads; a self-closing gate always returns to closed.

Which way does the gate open?

Always inward, onto the platform – never towards the drop.
