- Five stanchion types cover every run
- Fittings at code heights for US, AU or EU
- Welded base plates and brackets on jigs
- Order with a system or as spares
- Galvanized as single components
What it is
The stanchion is the post of the modular system: it carries the rail fittings at the right heights and takes the barrier load into the structure. World Steel makes five standard types, all with the same tube and fitting dimensions, so they mix freely within one run.
Range
| Code | Type | Fixing |
|---|---|---|
| WS-MH-S1 | Top-mounted, 2 rails | Base plate, 4 anchors or bolts |
| WS-MH-S2 | Top-mounted, 3 rails | Base plate, 4 anchors or bolts |
| WS-MH-S3 | Side-mounted | Side bracket, 2 bolts |
| WS-MH-S4 | Socket (removable) | Drop-in socket with locking pin |
| WS-MH-S5 | Raked (stairs and ramps) | Stringer or tread fixing |
| WS-MH-S6 | Free-standing | Base arm with counterweight |
Design and compliance
Fitting heights are set to the selected code – 42 in for OSHA, 900–1100 mm for AS 1657, 1100 mm for EN ISO 14122-3 – and the base plate or bracket is sized for the barrier load at the chosen spacing. Heavier-wall stanchions are available for long bays or higher loads.
Installation and selection
- Order complete stanchions by code – fittings are factory-positioned.
- For spares, quote the code and the rail height printed on the label.
- See fixing kits for anchors and clamps.
Fabrication and finishing at World Steel
Every WS modular handrail component is made in the World Steel plant in Vietnam: tube and bar are cut on saws to the component schedule, stanchions are welded to base plates, brackets or socket spigots on jigs so that rail heights repeat exactly, and fittings are fabricated from heavy-wall tube and plate, drilled and tapped for their locking screws. Welding follows qualified procedures under ISO 3834-2 and the AS/NZS 5131 and EN 1090-2 systems our certifications cover.
Components are then hot-dip galvanized as single pieces – which is only possible because the system is modular – giving full internal and external zinc coverage with no site welds to repair afterwards. A safety-yellow or architectural topcoat can follow. Parts are marked with their WS code, bagged by type and packed by area for export shipping, together with the structural steel or on their own.

常见问题
Can stanchions be ordered on their own?
Yes – as spares, for extensions or for runs where you supply the tube.
Are the fitting heights fixed?
They are factory-positioned for the code you specify, so every stanchion in a run is identical.
Which stanchion for grating decks?
Usually a side-mounted S3 on the edge member, or an S1 bolted through the grating to the support steel with a load-spreading plate.
