A standing seam roof floats on concealed clips and has no exposed fasteners in the pan.

Scope of supply

A standing seam roof replaces through-fastened sheeting where the roof is very low in slope, very long, or must stay weathertight for decades. The panels are joined at raised seams and held to the purlins by concealed clips, so there are no screws through the weather surface. World Steel supplies the system as an option on any PEB kit or as a separate cladding package.

  • Standing seam panels cut to run length, in snap-lock or mechanically seamed profile.
  • Fixed and sliding concealed clips, with thermal spacers where insulation is thick.
  • Purlin bracing or anti-roll restraint, since the roof sheet provides limited lateral restraint to the purlins.
  • Ridge, eave, gable and penetration trims, closures and sealants designed for thermal movement.
  • Seaming tool hire or purchase where mechanically seamed profiles are used.

Options and variants

Panel widths are typically 400–600 mm with seam heights of about 50–75 mm. Snap-lock panels are quick to install and suit most industrial buildings; double-lock mechanically seamed panels give the highest weathertightness and uplift resistance and are preferred at slopes down to about 1:50 (2%), subject to the manufacturer's limits. Insulated systems use spacer clips over blanket insulation or a liner sheet. Panels longer than a container can be made by a site roll-former, arranged per project.

Materials and finishes

Panels are roll-formed from aluminium-zinc coated high-tensile steel (for example AS 1397 G550 AZ150, ASTM A792 Grade 50 or 80 AZ50/AZ55, or EN 10346 S350GD+AZ150) in 0.48–0.60 mm base metal thickness, bare or pre-painted in polyester, SMP or PVDF. Clips are galvanized or stainless steel. See roof sheeting and metallic-coated sheet.

Tests, ratings and submittals

A standing seam roof is a tested system: its uplift capacity, weathertightness and clip behaviour come from laboratory tests on the actual panel, clip and purlin combination. Typical references requested in submittals:

Aluminium standing seam is available for marine and chemical environments; it requires compatible clips and isolation from steel purlins and larger allowances for thermal movement. See roof sheeting for the coating test background.

Documentation, packing and quotation

Deliverables include the roof layout with fixed-point location, clip spacing schedule, purlin restraint details, flashing details, test reports or manufacturer data for uplift, and installation instructions. Panels are bundled by length on timber skids with protective film, and clips and fasteners are boxed per bay.

A quotation can be prepared quickly when the enquiry states the project location and the code to be used. Please send:

  1. Roof length, slope and the location of the fixed point if preferred.
  2. Design wind speed and any insurance requirement such as FM Global.
  3. Insulation thickness and panel colour.
  4. Whether site roll-forming is acceptable for long runs.

World Steel returns a priced scope with a clear inclusions and exclusions list, the design basis assumed and a typical lead time. Enquiries go through the export supply team in Ho Chi Minh City.

שאלות נפוצות

When is a standing seam roof worth the extra cost?

When the roof slope is very low, the run is long, the roof must stay leak-free with minimal maintenance, or an insurer requires a tested uplift rating.

Do standing seam roofs need extra purlin bracing?

Usually yes. Because the sheet floats on clips it gives limited restraint to the purlins, so anti-roll or bridging is added by design.

Can solar panels be fixed to a standing seam roof?

Yes, using non-penetrating seam clamps, provided the clamp and the seam are compatible and the added load is included in the design.
