Konecranes
Finnish manufacturer of industrial cranes, hoists and port equipment, established as an independent company in 1994 from KONE Corporation.
Konecranes has its roots in KONE Corporation, founded in Finland in 1910, and became an independent company in 1994 as KCI Konecranes. It manufactures and services overhead travelling cranes, electric wire rope and chain hoists, workstation cranes and port equipment. In South-East Asia, Konecranes took full ownership of MHE-Demag in 2020. In Vietnam, Konecranes has supplied single- and double-girder overhead cranes, wall console cranes, jib cranes and workstation systems to manufacturing plants, and harbour and container cranes to ports.
Overhead cranes are a primary design input for crane buildings. Crane capacity, span, wheel loads, duty class and the hook approach dimensions determine the crane runway beam size, the column and bracket design, rail type and the frame's eave height and clear height. The crane supplier's data sheet gives maximum wheel loads, wheel spacing, lateral and longitudinal forces and buffer forces, which the steel designer uses with the applicable code – for example ASCE 7 and AISC with the MBMA and AIST guidance, AS 1418 in Australia, or EN 1991-3 in Europe. Runway beams must also be checked for fatigue and deflection, and erection tolerances for rail alignment are tighter than for ordinary framing.
