United States, Canada and the Caribbean – AISC, AWS and IAS AC472.
World Steel supplies structural steel and metal building systems to the United States, Canada and the Caribbean, designing to US and Canadian codes and fabricating under IAS AC472 accreditation – the first in Asia.
In the United States the International Building Code, ASCE 7 loads, AISC 360 design and AWS D1.1 welding form the backbone of every steel project, with MBMA practice and AISI S100 for metal building systems. World Steel was the first company in Asia accredited by IAS under AC472, the inspection-program criteria for manufacturers of metal building systems.
Canada designs to the National Building Code and CSA S16, and requires companies that weld structural steel to be certified to CSA W47.1 (CWB). Caribbean islands mostly follow IBC-based or OECS building codes with hurricane wind design to ASCE 7, plus demanding corrosion protection for the marine environment.
Trade conditions differ by market – US Section 232 duties, Canadian trade remedies and Caribbean import rules – and our export team confirms the current position with each quotation.
