Landed cost – frequently asked questions
What is landed cost?
The total cost of goods delivered to your site: the price at the port of loading (FOB), sea freight and insurance, import duty and any trade remedy duties, import taxes such as VAT or GST, customs and port fees, clearance and inland transport.
Which HS code applies to steel structures?
Fabricated structures and parts of structures of iron or steel are usually classified under HS 7308 (7308.90 for most frames, beams and columns); complete prefabricated buildings may fall under HS 9406. The importing country's customs authority makes the final classification.
How do I get the FTA preferential duty?
The goods must meet the agreement's rules of origin and you need the proof of origin it requires – a certificate (for example Form D, E, AK, AJ, AANZ or AI) or an origin declaration. World Steel prepares the origin documents with every shipment.
Is VAT or GST a real cost?
For a VAT- or GST-registered business it is usually recoverable as an input tax credit, so the calculator shows the landed cost with and without it. It remains a cash-flow cost until it is recovered.
How accurate is the result?
It is an estimate. Freight and local charges change every week and duty rates and trade measures change by decision of each government. World Steel confirms freight, duty and documents with every quotation – use the result for budgeting only.
