Fasteners & anchors

Hilti

Liechtenstein-based supplier of anchoring, direct fastening, fire protection systems and construction tools, founded in Schaan in 1941.

Hilti was founded in 1941 by Martin and Eugen Hilti as a mechanical workshop in Schaan, Liechtenstein, where it is still headquartered. It is known for direct fastening (its first powder-actuated fastener was introduced in 1953), mechanical and adhesive anchors, firestop systems and professional power tools. In Vietnam the company sells through Hilti Vietnam.

On pre-engineered building projects, Hilti-type products are mainly used at the steel-to-concrete interface and in fit-out. Post-installed mechanical and chemical (adhesive) anchors fix secondary items to concrete – wall base angles, dado walls, door frames, equipment supports – and may be used, where the engineer approves, to install or replace column anchors when cast-in anchor bolts are misplaced. Direct fastening tools fix base angles, deck and accessories to steel or concrete. Firestop products seal service penetrations in fire-rated walls and floors. Anchor capacity depends on concrete strength, cracked or uncracked condition, edge distance, spacing and embedment, so design should follow the manufacturer's technical data and the relevant approval or assessment (for example ACI 318 / ICC-ES, or EOTA European Technical Assessments).

Products used in PEB and steel structures

  • Mechanical anchors – fixing base angles, brackets and equipment to concrete
  • Adhesive (chemical) anchors – post-installed anchor rods and rebar
  • Direct fastening systems – fixing to steel and concrete
  • Firestop systems – penetration seals in fire-rated construction
  • Power tools – drilling and installation
