Paints & protective coatings
Hempel
Danish coatings manufacturer founded in 1915, supplying protective, marine and decorative coatings, with a factory in Binh Duong, Vietnam.
Hempel was founded in Copenhagen in July 1915 by Jørgen Christian Hempel and is headquartered in Denmark. The group supplies protective, marine, decorative, container and yacht coatings worldwide. In Vietnam, Hempel established a manufacturing plant in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in Binh Duong in 2006, serving local fabricators, shipyards and industrial projects.
For structural steel and pre-engineered buildings, protective coating systems combine a primer, optional intermediate coats and a topcoat to reach the durability required for the site's corrosivity category under ISO 12944. Zinc-rich primers provide galvanic protection, epoxies provide barrier protection and build, and polyurethane topcoats resist UV and maintain appearance. In enclosed, dry buildings a single primer coat may be adequate, while exposed members, canopies and coastal or chemical environments need multi-coat systems. Fire-rated buildings may require intumescent coatings, which must be compatible with the primer. Fabricators record blast profile, ambient conditions and dry film thickness during application, and the coating supplier's data sheets define overcoat windows and repair procedures.
Products used in PEB and steel structures
- Zinc-rich and zinc silicate primers – corrosion protection for blast-cleaned steel
- Epoxy primers and intermediates – durable barrier coats
- Polyurethane topcoats – exposed steel and visible structures
- Intumescent coatings – passive fire protection
In Vietnam
Hempel opened a factory in Vietnam in 2006 in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), Binh Duong province.
