Skylights & daylighting
Palram
Israeli manufacturer of polycarbonate and PVC sheets and panel systems for roofing, cladding and daylighting, established in 1963.
Palram Industries was established in 1963 at Kibbutz Ramat Yohanan in Israel. It manufactures polycarbonate and PVC sheets and panel systems for roofing, cladding and glazing and has branches on six continents. Its product lines include SUNLITE multiwall polycarbonate, SUNTUF corrugated polycarbonate and PALRUF corrugated PVC.
In pre-engineered steel buildings, profiled polycarbonate sheets matching the trapezoidal or corrugated roof and wall profiles are used as skylights and wall lights, lapped into the metal cladding and fixed to the purlins and girts. Multiwall polycarbonate is used for skylight strips, canopies and vertical glazing where better thermal insulation is needed. Polycarbonate has high impact resistance, and products with UV-protected surfaces are needed for long-term outdoor exposure. Designers check light transmission, solar heat gain, thermal expansion (which requires oversized holes and suitable washers), span between supports and fire classification. Translucent panels should not be walked on, and fall protection must be provided during installation and maintenance.
Products used in PEB and steel structures
- SUNTUF corrugated polycarbonate – translucent roof and wall sheets matching metal profiles
- SUNLITE multiwall polycarbonate – skylights, canopies and vertical glazing
- PALRUF corrugated PVC – roofing in chemically aggressive environments
