Overview
About Ceramic and high-temperature fibre insulation
Ceramic (refractory) fibre and low-biopersistence alkaline-earth silicate (AES) fibres insulate at process temperatures well above building fire curves; grades are selected by classification temperature.
Refractory ceramic fibre is classified as a carcinogen (category 1B) under the EU CLP regulation, so AES or other low-biopersistence fibres are preferred where they meet the temperature.
These products protect equipment and processes – they are not a substitute for a tested fire-resistance system for structural steel.
Key benefits
- Very high service temperatures
- Low heat storage, fast heat-up
- Flexible forms for complex shapes
- Low-biopersistence options

How we use Ceramic and high-temperature fibre insulation in steel buildings
World Steel supplies high-temperature insulation with plant and equipment structures and coordinates supports and cladding.
Product-specific test reports, classification reports and certificates are supplied for the product selected for each project – this page describes the product type, not a certified product.
- 01Specified with the structure – thickness, density and facing matched to the roof, wall and fire design.
- 02Quantities taken from the same 3D model as the steel, purlins and cladding.
- 03Packed and shipped with the steel package – one delivery schedule to site.
Applications
Where Ceramic and high-temperature fibre insulation is used
- Furnace and kiln linings
- Hot ducts and flues
- Equipment and expansion-joint insulation

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can ceramic fibre protect structural steel in a building fire?
Only as part of a tested fire-resistance system. For structural steel use intumescents, boards or sprays with test evidence.
Is this product certified?
Certification belongs to a specific manufacturer’s product or tested system. We supply the test report, classification or listing accepted in your market for the product selected – it is confirmed per project, never assumed.
One partner for structure and envelope
Send us your drawings or bill of quantities – we quote the steel, insulation, boards and ceilings together and ship them as one package.
