Overview
About Fire-rated glass doors
Fire-resistant glass is classified by what it stops: E (integrity – flames and hot gases), EW (integrity plus limited radiation) or EI (integrity plus insulation – the protected face stays cool). The classification applies to the glass, frame and hardware tested together.
Glazed doors are tested to EN 1634-1 and classified under EN 13501-2; in North America fire-protective and fire-resistive glazing and doors follow UL 10C, UL 9 and ASTM E119 depending on the use.
Fire-resistant glass must also meet safety-glazing requirements for impact where people can collide with it.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between E, EW and EI glass?
E stops flames and hot gases, EW also limits heat radiation, EI also insulates so the unexposed side stays cool – which one is needed depends on the code and the use of the space.
Is this product certified?
Certification belongs to a specific manufacturer’s product or tested system. We supply the test report, classification or listing accepted in your market for the product selected – it is confirmed per project, never assumed.
